If you think you are eligible for the student grant, you should apply for it as soon as possible. The application process for 2011-2-12 is now open. You do not have to wait until you receive an offer of a place or enroll in college.

Three measures were announced in Budget 2011 relating to the student grant schemes:

Department of Social Protection - FRAUD CONTROLS
Students are reminded that Institutions of Education are required to provide details of student enrolments to the Department of Social Protection, to identify possible abuses of the Social Welfare System.  You are not entitled to receive a Social Welfare payment while attending a full-time course of study unless you have received prior approval from the Department under the terms of the scheme.  It is Department of Social Protection policy to consider for prosecution ALL cases of fraud and abuse of the Social Welfare system.  All information is treated as confidential and is subject to the provisions of the Data Protection Act and the Freedom of Information Act.
